&lt;p&gt;Instead, eat the foods that will help you reach your six pack goal: oatmeal, olive oil, whole grain breads, fruits, vegetables, nuts, eggs, natural peanut butter, chicken, fish, protein, green tea and water. Be realistic - you'll slip here and there, but make a conscious effort to improve your eating habits because getting a six pack will be impossible if you don't.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Are you ready to get rid of that nasty pouch or beer belly that we all detest with a passion. These exercises I will outline below, will hopefully help you do that. Just make sure to do them regularly to get the best results. Rome was not built in one day.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Here are 3 exercises for lower abs:&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;1. &lt;/b&gt;Lay on your on your back with your legs stretched out on the floor. Put your hands on your sides and rest your head on the floor. Now all you have to do is lift your legs to a 45 degree angle of the ground and then bring them down again, but make sure not to rest your legs on the floor. Repeat this movement for 10 - 15 repetitions and then rest your legs back on the floor.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;2. &lt;/b&gt;Now the second exercise, continues from where you left of with the first one. Simply raise put your hands behind your head and lift it up of the ground slightly. Now all you do is bring in your legs to your stomach bending at the knees then kick them out again but do not make your legs touch the floor. Repeat this movement 10 - 15 times, and then we will move on to the third exercise.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;3. &lt;/b&gt;The third exercise you can do, for your lower abs is as follows. Bend your legs at the knees and let both big toes touch, so that your knees are outwards. With your head still in same position from the last exercise, that is slightly off the ground with your hands behind your head for support, rock your legs back and forth using your bum as the pivot point. You should feel it, right where you want it, that is your lower abs.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;There you go, 3 simple exercises you can do for your lower abs. Now it is very important that you do not overdo these exercises, always start with a lower number of reps and build your way up. Also if you start to feel any discomfort or pain, stop the exercise immediately, or you are going to end up hurting yourself. Always remember to breath as you do these exercises, or you will go south.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;You have been doing boring monotonous cardio exercises, countless  sit-ups and leg lifts but you still have not achieve a flat stomach.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Mike Geary who is a national Certified Personal Trainer and Nutrition Specialist has been doing 3 of his favorite ab workouts to maintain his six pack abs.  Basically, these 3 sets of workouts do not include any direct ab exercises at all.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;How to get a flat stomach with his 3 favorite workouts?&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;br&gt;- Barbell Front Squat&lt;/br&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This exercise is a effective way of targeting your lower body especially the quadriceps.  Instead of holding the barbell like the normal way,  you should hold the barbell in front of your body.  
Stabilize the barbell on your shoulders by crossing your arms and hands onto the bar against your shoulders. Your elbows should be facing out and chest pushed out with your head looking forward.  At any point of time, your elbows should not be face down during the lift.  In the beginning, many people will face a little bit of the problem for the technique and form.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;br&gt;- Mountain Climbers On Floor&lt;/br&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This exercise increases core strength and endurance. It is good for toning your ab and leg muscles.   Start in a push up position and then shuffling your feet in and out so that your knees are moving in under your chest and then back out to starting position.  It resembles just like climbing mountain.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;br&gt;- Renagade Dumbbell Rows&lt;/br&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This exercise let your midsection work hard to stabilize body.  Start in a push up position with both hands on dumbbells. Row one dumbbell upward while balancing your body with the other arm.  Return the dumbbell back to the ground and do the same for the other hand as well.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;After completing each exercise, rest for 30 seconds before starting the next exercises. Rest 1-2 minutes for each tri-sets completed.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Having a toned stomach is easily achievable if you focus and do it the right way.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The problem is that most of the abdominal exercises that are recommended all over the internet, and in magazines, etc, are not necessarily the best method to get that six-pack abs appearance. First and foremost, the most important aspect for great looking six pack abdominals is losing the extra belly fat that is covering them up. To be honest, most people already have decent abdominals underneath, yet the six-pack abs are simply covered up by all of that extra flabby stomach fat.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Instead of focusing so much on abdominal exercises to make your stomach flatter and more like a six-pack, you will lose much more body fat by focusing the majority of your training time with special combinations of high intensity full-body, multi-joint exercises. &lt;p&gt;Now when it comes to abdominal-specific exercises, another mistake most people make is mindlessly pumping away with hundreds of crunches and other meaningless abs exercises that barely give your abdominals much resistance to work against. If you want to actually develop your abdominals to the best extent possible, don't waste your time with exercises that you can do more than 20 or 25 reps... that means you are definitely not doing an exercise that provides enough resistance to the abs. Exercises that give you enough resistance to get you down into the 6-15 rep range per set works great for the abs.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Generally, higher resistance abdominal exercises that provide a much larger stimulus to the abs come in the form of exercises that involve raising/curling the legs and pelvis either upward or inward closer to the trunk. A couple great examples of these higher resistance abdominal exercises are hanging leg raises or knee raises using a "pelvic curl up", or an exercise like lying hip thrusts. Many times, the same people that can do 50 or 100 crunches, can't even complete more than 2 or 3 properly executed hanging leg raises.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;If you really want tighter flatter abdominals that look like a six-pack, remember that losing that extra belly fat is the MOST important factor. Also, when it comes to abdominal-specific exercises, always remember higher resistance exercises that involve curling/raising the legs and pelvis upward or inward are what develops the abs to the best extent possible.&lt;/p&gt;

There has been an increase in the number of people with weight issues, and weight problems. But for some of them, they start to figure it out. They manage to get their weight under control. But, their stomach muscles never develop like they want. They still have some softness, and want this section cut up, or really defined. Male, or female, there is nothing more noticeable than a nice set of six pack abs. So what is the &lt;b&gt;truth about six pack abs&lt;/b&gt;?&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Your abs will consist of 2 separate areas you need to work on: The Fat and The Muscle.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;u&gt;The Fat&lt;/u&gt;:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;You first thing you need to do is cut out all of the sugar. This is such a contributor to the added weight we are putting on. See, as we eat sugar, the body has a natural response to release insulin, which in turn will go out and get the sugar, and store it as fat. If you are trying to uncover the muscles, this fat needs to go. Sugar is the main contributor to this.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Eat fresh foods, and not processed foods. This goes with the above message. If you eat fresh foods, there is no sugar or corn syrup added. Did you know 1 cup of pasta has the same amount of carbohydrates as 4-5 heads of lettuce? Which one do think is easier to eat? You need to look at the food that way. There is a study out there, which talks about volumetrics, which is the size of the food, compared to the amount of calories in it. Pasta is a very bad food when it comes to this. If you stick with fresh foods you will be OK. It is not that you are cutting out carbs. You are getting rid of the bad carbs.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;These 2 steps will get you in the right direction from a nutrition point. From a fitness point, you need to start some cardio, which will help accelerate the fat burning process. The more cardio you do, the faster the fat loss. But, just try to be active some each and every day.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;u&gt;The Muscle&lt;/u&gt;:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I am very old school on this. The problem with many people today is they want a fancy machine to do the work for them. The machine actually makes it easier, so if this is true, are you really getting a good work out? No, you are not. The only thing you are doing is wasting your money. Here are the only exercises you need to do:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;Sit ups: 5 sets of 15 each day&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Crunches: 5 sets of 15 each day&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Leg Lifts: 3 sets of 10 each day (these will be more difficult at first. After you get better at them, the increase them)&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Now, there are a bunch of other items you can do. Some side raises, etc…..Just stick with the 3 above consistently for 3 weeks and watch the difference. Remember it takes 21 days to make or break a habit, so you need to do this every day. Do not use weights with the exercises, as you are not trying to build big stomach muscles. You just want them cut.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1.  Lots of crunches is not the best way to go.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;li&gt;a good *wholesome* diet is important&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;li&gt;a solid exercise plan is essential&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;li&gt;any extreme diet will eventually fail&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;li&gt;traditional (long &amp; slow) cardio is not optimal, and is even counterproductive&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;li&gt;weight training is better than cardio since it builds muscle, which raises the metabolism&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;li&gt;supplementation is not the holy grail - whole food is better&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;li&gt;fruit is not nature's junk food&lt;/li&gt;

&lt;p&gt;So lets dig a bit deeper. One needs that to make a decision. I'll run through what's in the book, in more or less the order Mike presents it. I'll outline the 'WHAT', and leave "Truth About Six Pack Abs" to give details of the 'HOW'.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Lower bodyfat percentage&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Mike starts out by stressing that bodyfat reduction and ab development are both important if you want to get that six pack abs and overall lean body. Getting to a low enough bodyfat % to be able to see the ab muscles clearly enough is much more important than developing the muscles themselves. Its common sense, but most people are just concerned with losing weight. Your aim should be to lose *fat* and spare muscle.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Ab training&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Ab training is not as important as most people think. It is important to have a strong core, but working your abs for even hours on end is just a waste of time. Nevertheless, Mike knows that strong abs have benefits, and deals with it accordingly.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The main criteria for choosing ab exercises is 1) does it work and 2) is it safe. Ab training should focus on function and therefore both the 'six pack' and the hip flexors should be trained. Most importantly, for safety, Mike tells you how proper body positioning is critical to prevent hurting your lower back.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Crunches are only OK for beginners, and tons of safe advanced exercises are provided for when you become more advanced, which you will - quickly. (By the way - that cheap ab wheel thingy actually does work, according to Mike).&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This section of the book made it very clear to me that Mike has his priorities in order.'Ab work' only takes 5-7 minutes per given day, and only twice per week! That covers the ab training component of the book. Yes, that's all! To be honest, its really a minor part of the system.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Truth About Six Pack Abs presents the real secret next, and in much more detail than I have seen in other systems.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;How to SUPERCHARGE your metabolism &lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;In order to lose bodyfat and keep it off, the resting metabolic rate (RMR) must be raised, since it burns 60-70% of daily calories. Calorie requirements are calculated from RMR. Since muscle tissue directly affects the metabolism, resistance training forms a big part of the system. Extreme dieting and cardio exercise is avoided for the same reason.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I never did well with very low calorie diets, and I hate long boring cardio routines. Finding out that neither are even good ideas was very cool and got me quite fired up about trying the program!&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Increasing RMR through exercise&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Since weight training builds muscle, it is a priority in this system. Free weights are favored over machines and compound movements are chosen over isolation exercises. Full body workouts burn more calories during as well as after the actual session. Mike starts introducing the idea of optimizing the workout:time ratio here - its the book's biggest secret, in my opinion.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;A 'Better' cardio&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Long cardio is boring and does little for RMR. Worse still is that it can cause muscle loss and lower RMR (you can weigh less, but still be more fat percentage wise, i.e. 'skinny fat'). Truth About Six Pack Abs therefore favors short, intense cardio is much better. This was just what the doctor ordered for me. I hate traditional cardio!&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Workout frequency/duration&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Truth About Six Pack Abs requires only 3-4 training days per week, lasting 45-60 minutes maximum. Perfect for people who cannot         aI have found that I get best results with only 45 minutes. Its nice to still have time left to have a normal life.&lt;/p&gt;
